1. Start with the building blocks, in the right order

The astrology of reading rests on four families of objects: the signs (the style), the planets (the functions), the houses (the areas of life) and the aspects (the links between planets). Everything else hangs off them. The classic mistake is to pick at random; the right method is to learn them in an order where each notion lights up the next.

Our free « Learn astrology » path follows exactly that order, from the zodiac to the transits. It assumes nothing and reads without signing up. It is the best place to start, today, for free.

2. The real wall: moving from list to story

The point where most self-taught learners stall is not memorising the symbols, it is synthesis: turning a stack of isolated placements into a reading that speaks about a person. « Leo Sun, Virgo Moon, Libra Rising » says nothing until you have woven it together. Learning to read means learning that gesture: combining a planet, its sign and its house into one sentence, then chaining those sentences into a coherent story, from the broadest stroke to the finest.

That is precisely what a built course gives you and what a book alone struggles to pass on: the method of assembly, repeated until it becomes a reflex.

3. Learn on your own chart, not a stranger’s

We remember what concerns us. Working the houses on a complete stranger’s chart stays abstract; working them on yours, where your Moon actually lives, in which house your Sun rises, anchors every notion in something alive. That is the principle of the Nohemia Academy: the exercises are done on your own sky chart, calculated position by position in your space.

5. How long it takes, and the truth about certifications

Holding a first reading of your own chart: a few weeks of steady work once the basics are in place. Reading someone else’s chart with ease: more like a few months of practice. No one « finishes » learning astrology; you come back to it for a lifetime.

On certifications, let’s be clear, because the market keeps things blurry. Astrology is not a regulated profession; no diploma is « state-recognised », and the labels that call themselves « globally recognised » are most often marketing. An honest certificate attests to one precise thing: you followed a real cursus and passed its exam. That is how we present the Nohemia certificate, no more, no less.

6. Choosing a course without getting fooled

Four warning signs, when you compare courses:

• Fatalism. Run from anything that announces what « will happen » to you. Serious astrology describes a terrain, tendencies, never a dated verdict.
• The guru. Be wary of the voice that knows everything and cites no one. The Western tradition has named texts (Ptolemy, Lilly, Brady, Hand, Greene); a good course cites them openly.
• The passive PDF. Reading fact sheets is not enough to know how to read. Look for corrected exercises, practice, feedback, ideally on your own chart.
• The fake accreditation. A « globally recognised certificate » sold dear is a red flag. Prefer honesty to the label.
