South Node (lunar)
The South Node is one of the two points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the ecliptic, always opposite the North Node. These are not bodies but calculated points. In modern astrology, the South Node represents the familiar: the innate gifts, the reflexes and the old patterns a person is invited to release. The karmic reading sees it as already-mastered baggage, comfortable but not to be mistaken for one’s life direction.
What it invites you to release
The South Node describes what you already know how to do, sometimes too well. Its sign and house show ground where you retreat out of habit, out of safety. These are real gifts, but staying there holds you back: the work is to lean on them without locking yourself inside them.
Paired with the North Node
The South Node is never read alone: it forms an axis with the North Node, its exact opposite. The South is the familiar and the already-acquired; the North is the unknown to explore. One makes no sense without the other, and the whole movement is to leave the South gently for the North.
