Mutable signs
The mutable signs are one of the three modalities of Western astrology, alongside the cardinal and fixed signs. They are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. Their role is to adapt: they close each season and prepare the next, carrying the transition. Tradition links them to flexibility, versatility and the art of working with change rather than resisting it.
What they adapt
If you have planets in mutable signs, you know how to adjust: you change course without drama, you adapt to people and situations. This energy gives you fluidity and a real gift for bridging. It only gains from choosing a firm direction now and then, so you do not scatter across every option.
Against cardinal and fixed
Cardinal signs open, fixed ones hold, and mutable ones adapt and close: a full cycle. Where the mutable shines at adjusting and bridging, it can sometimes lack a firm anchor. That is why the three modalities complete one another, each taking over the work where the other one starts to tire.
