Full Moon in Scorpio.

Next occurrence · 23:27 →

A full moon in Scorpio happens when the Moon, opposite the Sun, crosses the sign of Scorpio, about once a year. The next one falls on April 20, 2027. Tradition reads it as a point of culmination in the register of the sign: what the bright days left at the bottom rises into full light, and the intensity asks to be crossed through.

What this lunation colors

Tradition counts it among the most intense full moons of the year. It rises in May, amid gardens in bloom and the Sun in Taurus, calm and sensory: and it’s precisely that contrast that gives it its force. The full moon in Scorpio looks under the lawn. The eighth house facing the second: what transforms facing what is kept, shared depths facing quiet possessions. What ripens under this light is the sheddings begun in autumn: the intentions buried at November’s new moon rise back up transformed, and you can measure the real distance traveled, the kind that doesn’t show in photos. Intense emotions (desire, jealousy, grief, fascination) gain voltage for a few days; secrets tend to surface, conversations to plunge all at once. Tradition reads it as the great yearly appointment with what we avoid: not to wallow in it, but because a life that never goes down into its own cellar ends up haunted by it. What asks to be released here carries heavy names: a grudge kept like a bitter treasure, a control that exhausts, a loyalty to an old pain. Fixed Scorpio doesn’t let go through forgetting: it lets go through crossing through. Feel what must be felt, fully, once; afterward, strangely, the grip loosens on its own.

A ritual to welcome it

Find water: a bath, a river if you have one nearby, or simply a large dark bowl. Write on a slip of paper the grudge, the fear, or the control you want to be rid of, naming it plainly: Scorpio respects precision. Then let the water do its work: dissolve the paper in the bowl, or read it one last time before sliding into the bath and tear it up as you get out. Then stay a while in the dim light, with nothing to do, feeling what moves. If an emotion rises, welcome it like a visitor long awaited. Finish with a brief shower: the water that carries away, then the water that makes you new.

Three questions for your journal

  1. What grudge do I keep stoked like a fire, and what is it still giving me in exchange for what it burns?
  2. What do I control in my life out of fear of losing it, and what becomes of that bond under the control?
  3. Which crossing of the last six months truly transformed me, and what did I leave on the other shore?

And the new moon in the same sign: new moon in Scorpio, or the whole full moon calendar.
