Moon journal · Full Moon
Journaling at the full moon.
grab your notebook ✦
The Moon rises as the Sun sets, round, whole, impossible to ignore. The full moon is the instant of exact opposition: the two lights facing each other, the clearest night of the cycle. Traditions the world over have made it a summit, and generations of private notebooks tell the same story: emotions rising, sleep that runs thinner, words that finally arrive about what had been simmering for days. For writing, this is the phase of harvest and of truth. Here you see what the new-moon intention became, two weeks on: sometimes what you hoped for, sometimes something else, and that is just as interesting. Reopening, in the app, the page you wrote at the new moon, then setting the two side by side, is one of the most telling gestures of the moon journal. The full moon demands nothing: it lights. It is yours to write what you see in that raw light, including what spills over, including what surprises you.
The prompts to open
-
What has this fortnight made of your new-moon intention: where is it now, transformed, outgrown, faithful?
-
What is spilling over in you tonight, emotion, tiredness, joy, and what is it trying to tell you?
-
What do you see clearly now that you refused to see two weeks ago?
-
What are you proud of right now, even if no one noticed?
-
If there were one thing to celebrate tonight, right here, right now, what would it be?
To close the page
Close your notebook and go and see the Moon, from a window if you must. Stay a real minute, no phone, watching it watch you. Then come back in and note just one more sentence: what you felt during that minute. It is often the truest line on the page.
