A full moon in Leo happens when the Moon, opposite the Sun, crosses the sign of Leo, about once a year. The next one falls on January 22, 2027. Tradition reads it as a point of culmination in the register of the sign: the singular heart steps back on stage opposite the sign of the group, and what was created asks to be celebrated.
What this lunation colors
February’s nights belong to it: while the Sun crosses Aquarius, the sign of the group, of causes and ideas larger than any one person, the full moon in Leo plays the part of the singular heart. The fifth house facing the eleventh, what I create in my own name facing what we build together. What ripens under this light is the seeds of joy and creation planted the summer before: some have bloomed and now ask for their moment in the spotlight; others died out for want of feeding, and the full moon shows it, without cruelty but without softening. The mood is generous and a little dramatic, like everything Leo touches: needs for recognition rise back up, sometimes loudly. Tradition reads it as a question of balance between belonging and existing: a group, a cause, a network can carry you, but they can also dilute you, and this lunation lights up the exact spot where you may have blended into the “we” until you snuffed out your “I.” What asks to be released here is sometimes a need for applause that holds you hostage, sometimes its opposite: a show of modesty that spares you the risk of being seen. Fixed fire doesn’t let go easily; it lets go through celebration. Celebrate what you’ve made, even unfinished. The heart releases better once it has first been honored.
A ritual to welcome it
Throw a celebration, however tiny. Invite one or two people who know how to rejoice for others, or celebrate alone with ceremony: the good dishes, the music that makes you sing. During the evening, show or tell one thing you created this year, without shrinking it with an “it’s nothing.” Later, write on a slip of paper the need for validation or the false modesty you want to be rid of, and burn it in a candle flame, safely, over a bowl. Leo gives back to the fire whatever clutters the heart, and keeps the light.
