Moon journal · First Quarter
Journaling at the first quarter.
grab your notebook ✦
Halfway between the new and the full moon, the Moon shows up cut clean in two: half light, half shadow. Astrologers speak of a square between the Moon and the Sun, an angle of tension, and experience often proves the symbol right: it is around the first quarter that the bright intention of the start meets reality. Momentum is no longer enough, now you have to negotiate, adjust, sometimes push a little to get through. Your journal then changes role: it becomes a workbench. This is the place to take apart what is stuck, piece by piece, without drama: what is really blocking, what is just tiredness, what calls for a clear decision? Writing the difficulty down almost always makes it smaller than it was in your head. This is also the phase of choices: keep going, correct course, or let a branch fall to save the tree. The Nohemia journal puts back in front of you what you wrote at the earlier phases: useful, when you doubt, to reread the original drive before you cut.
The prompts to open
-
What is the precise obstacle standing in front of you right now, and which part of it actually depends on you?
-
If you had to defend your new-moon intention to someone skeptical, what would you say to justify it today?
-
What are you carrying on out of habit when you already know, somewhere, that it leads nowhere?
-
What decision have you been putting off since the start of the cycle, and what would it cost you to make it this week?
-
Where, right now, are you confusing perseverance with stubbornness?

Take the heaviest block on your page and reword it as a question that begins with how. A problem written as a question is already looking for its way out. Close your notebook on that: you don't need the answer tonight, only the right question.
