Numerological reduction
Numerological reduction is the basic operation of Pythagorean numerology: the digits of a number are added together, again and again, until only a single digit from 1 to 9 remains. For example, 1987 gives 1+9+8+7 = 25, then 2+5 = 7. The one exception is the master numbers 11, 22 and 33, which are kept without reducing them. This is how a date or a name becomes a single readable figure.

How to practice it
Take your starting number, add its digits one by one, then begin again on the result as long as it stays above 9. You stop as soon as a single digit remains, unless you meet 11, 22 or 33: those, you keep intact. With a little practice, the calculation becomes almost a reflex.
