Profection
The annual profection is a Hellenistic predictive technique that advances a point of the chart by one house for each year of life. At age zero the point starts from the Ascendant, in the first house; at one year it moves to the second house, and so on, completing the zodiac every twelve years. The house thus activated and its lord mark the themes brought forward for the year.
One house per year
The principle is strikingly simple: your age tells you which house activates. Take your age, divide by twelve, and the remainder gives the house counted from the Ascendant. The planet ruling that house becomes the lord of the year, to follow closely in your transits and solar return.
A thread linking the techniques
Profection does not say everything on its own, but it directs the gaze. It shows which area of your life receives the light that year, and which planet holds its keys. Crossed with the solar return and transits, it gives time a coherence, like a red thread strung from one birthday to the next.
