Transit
A transit is the current position of a planet in the sky, set against a person's birth chart. By comparing where the planets are today to the points of the birth chart, astrology reads the present moment and its timing. Transits are used to illuminate cycles, phases and periods of life, where the birth chart itself stays fixed.
Today's sky over your chart
Your birth chart is frozen at your birth, but the planets keep moving. A transit is a current planet forming an angle with a point on your chart. This is how astrology speaks of the present and of timing: not by changing your chart, but by looking at what is touching it right now.
