The life path is the central number of Pythagorean numerology. It is found by reducing the day, the month and the year of a birth date separately, then adding the three results and reducing again to a single digit, unless it lands on 11, 22 or 33, the master numbers, which the method keeps as they are. How is the life path number calculated?
You reduce the day, the month and the year of birth separately, then add the three results and reduce again, down to a number from 1 to 9 or a master number. Example: 14 March 1992 gives 1+4 = 5 for the day, 3 for the month, 1+9+9+2 = 21 then 2+1 = 3 for the year; you add 5+3+3 = 11, kept as a master number.
What is a master number?
11, 22 and 33: three totals the Pythagorean method does not reduce, because the tradition reads in them a particular intensity, a doubled vibration of the 2, the 4 and the 6 they cover. If your date lands there, both numbers are read together: the master number and its reduction.
Can different methods give two different results?
Yes, at the margins: some schools reduce each block (day, month, year) before the final addition, others add everything at once. Both almost always reach the same number; when they diverge, it is over spotting a master number.
What does the life path number say?
The tradition reads in it the background tone of a life: not a written destiny, a natural slope, the direction life moves in with the least effort. A mirror, never a verdict.
Do the master numbers 11 and 22 reduce?
No: it is the one exception to the rule. When the day, the month, the year or the final total gives 11 or 22, Pythagorean numerology keeps them as they are instead of bringing them back to 2 or 4. The tradition reads a particular intensity there: the 11 as a high-tension 2, intuitive and demanding; the 22 as a 4 with reach, the one nicknamed the builder. Some schools add the 33; others keep to the first two.
Can my life path number change over a lifetime?
No: it comes from your birth date, and that does not move. What changes is the way you inhabit it; the same 7 is lived in retreat at twenty, in depth at fifty. Numerology adds other numbers for the seasons of a life (personal years, cycles), but the life path stays the background note. If another site gave you a different result, compare the methods: most gaps come from a reduction done in one block rather than step by step, which can miss a master number.
