The lines of the hand, one by one.
Life, heart, head, fate: what palmistry has classically read in each line of the hand, its cultural history, and exactly where the reading stops.
- The fate line The fate line is the great vertical of the palm: it rises from the base of the hand toward the middle finger, meeting the Mount of Saturn, which also earns it the name Saturn line.
- The head line The head line is the middle line: it begins between the thumb and index, often joined to the start of the life line, then crosses the palm horizontally, below the heart line.
- The heart line The heart line is the highest of the three major lines on the palm: it runs horizontally beneath the base of the fingers, from the edge below the pinky toward the index or middle finger.
- The life line The life line is the long curve that wraps around the base of the thumb, from the edge of the palm between thumb and index down toward the wrist.
