Major Arcana
The Major Arcana are the 22 master cards of the tarot, numbered from The Fool (0) to The World (21), also called trumps. Each one embodies a great archetypal figure, and together they trace what is often called the Fool’s journey: a symbolic passage through life’s major inner stages. In a reading, their presence points to deep themes rather than everyday details.
How to recognize them
You spot the Major Arcana by their names and Roman numerals: The Magician, The Empress, The Star, The Moon, The Sun, and so on. When one of them appears in your spread, give it special attention. It speaks of an underlying current, a force larger than the anecdote, and it colors the whole reading around it.
Their place in a spread
If you see many Major Arcana gathered together, read it as a turning point: the stakes touch your larger path, not just your week. Few of them, and you are invited to look at the concrete and the everyday. Hold them as mirrors rather than verdicts, prompts for reflection more than fixed answers.
