Black Moon Lilith
Black Moon Lilith is a calculated point in the birth chart, not a body: it corresponds to the apogee of the Moon’s orbit, the spot where the Moon swings farthest from Earth. There are two definitions: mean Black Moon Lilith, which smooths the apogee’s motion, and true (osculating) Black Moon Lilith, which follows its actual wobble. Astrology reads this point as a wild, unsubdued part of the personality.
Mean or true: two ways to find one point
The lunar apogee does not move in a smooth line: it wobbles under the Sun’s pull. Mean Black Moon Lilith smooths that motion into a steady path, true Black Moon Lilith follows its zigzags, and the two can sit several degrees apart, sometimes far more. Check which one your software uses: if your Lilith changes signs from one site to the next, this is almost always why.
What the tradition reads in it
Demetra George links this shadow zone to the figures of the dark goddess: the part of you that refuses to bend, to please, to bargain. Black Moon Lilith speaks of a raw instinct, a fierce dignity, sometimes a wounded one. Rather than make it a threat, look at it as a mirror of your unsubdued side: what it holds is not waiting to be fixed, only recognized.
