Glossary Enneagram

Heart center (feeling triad)

The heart center gathers types 2, 3, and 4 of the Enneagram. Also called the feeling triad, it brings together the personalities whose dominant intelligence runs through connection, image, and emotional resonance. Its underlying emotion is shame: the 2 compensates by becoming indispensable, the 3 by collecting achievements, and the 4 by cultivating its singularity. With the gut and head centers, it forms one of the model's three founding triads.

If this is your center

When the heart center leads in you, the question of how others see you runs through much of your day: being loved, being recognized, being seen for who you truly are. You catch moods and unspoken things with rare finesse. The flip side is that your spirits can hang on the image you believe you project.

Tending it gently

Riso and Hudson remind us that the three types of this center are looking for an identity that holds without outside validation. Give yourself moments when no one is watching: what you feel there, with no witness, tells you about your real heart. The more you welcome your emotions without staging them, the more they become reliable allies.
