Celebrity zodiac signs, by the numbers
We calculated the Sun sign and Moon sign of the 856 most-viewed people on Wikipedia, across ten languages. Here is what the numbers show, as they are.
What the numbers say
- Leo comes first (9.3%), ahead of Gemini and Cancer. Aquarius comes last (6.7%).
- By field: Leo leads in sport (13.4%), Gemini in politics (13.2%), Leo in film (10.2%).
- None of these gaps goes beyond what chance produces in a sample this size (chi-square test, 5% threshold). No sign is made for fame.

Above 19.7, the gap from an even split would have less than a 5% chance of being due to chance.
And the Moon?
Across 477 people (excluding 379 born on a day when the Moon changes sign), Libra leads (10.1%) and Taurus trails (5.9%). Again, the gap stays within chance (chi-square 10.9).
Method
The sample gathers the most-viewed people on Wikipedia across ten language editions. It is not a random draw from the population: it is fame as the public searches for it.
The 25 people born before 1583, when the Gregorian calendar was adopted, are left out: their birth dates follow another calendar or remain uncertain.
Sun and Moon signs are calculated at noon UTC on the day of birth, from the real positions of the bodies (astronomy-engine library). Birth times are rarely public, so the rising sign is not studied, and days when the Moon changes sign are left out of the Moon count.
For each distribution, a chi-square test compares the counts with an even split across the twelve signs. With eleven degrees of freedom, a chi-square above 19.7 would flag a gap with less than a 5% chance of being due to chance.
The numbers are recalculated at every site update.
